Overheard Conversation

On the bus this morning, I overheard an UES woman explaining to her 5 year-old daughter about shaking hands.

Mom: And what hand do you shake with?

Child: (holding up her left) This one!

Mom: No, which hand do you write with?

Child: (holding up her left) This one!

Mom: No, no one writes with their left hand. That's impossible. You write with your right.

Child: Sometimes I write with this one.

Mom: No, no one writes with their left hand. No one. It's im-poss-ible.

Me: (because I'm cranky and hate when people lie to their children) Why are you lying to your child?

Then I got off the bus, 'cause I'd reached my destination.

Yes, I know that I usually don't say anything to people about their children, and I always butt out of conversations, but give me a break. That child's going to grow up with a complex.

Throw me a frickin' bone

In doing this project where I'm drawing these anatomy pieces for a medical text, I've had to learn a lot of anatomy. For instance, I now know the difference between an efferent duct and a convoluted vas. For people starting out in med school, or for high schoolers taking biology, learning the different bones in the body is definitely required. Here's a fun way to do it. Really.

It's a game called "Whack-a-Bone", where you have to place bones in their proper place, and then name them. It sounds boring, but it's actually quite interesting. Then, to reward you, you get to whack the shit out of them with a sledge hammer.

Yay...the House grew a backbone...Yay!

Soooo....yesterday the House of Representatives failed to pass the $700 BILLION bailout plan, followed by back pats all around. Good job on not passing that bill, representatives! Good job listening to your public. Today, the bill's going to be voted on in the Senate. (Maybe I wasn't paying attention in government class during high school, but doesn't a bill need to be passed by the House before it gets voted on in the Senate?) The Senate is saying that the public doesn't want the bill passed because they don't understand it, because we don't see how it'll benefit us, only the big wigs of Wall Street, 'cause, you know, the public is STOOPIT.

Well, here's the thing, Senate. Just speaking for myself here, but it's not that I only think the plan will bail out the big wigs on Wall Street, it's that I don't think these big money lenders like Freddie and Fanny should be able to do whatever the hell they want and think that if they fuck up, the government will come waltzing in to bail their asses out of trouble. They fucked up? Great. Let them pay the consequences.

A lot of my friends are pissy because they have a lot of money invested in the market. Dude. Now's a great time to invest in the market. You know how LOW it is? You know eventually - maybe not immediately - the market will rise again. And people who invested in it now? Made in the shade, baby. That's, of course, only if the companies in which you invest don't go bankrupt in the meanwhile.

So. In summary: SUCK IT UP WALL STREET! YOU SCREWED YOUROWNSELF.

Soooo pretty

You know, the vast majority of the time, CGUnit posts artists that are extremely similar in style, and I get bored with the website occasionally due to this. However, they posted this FABULOUS artist named Jeff Simpson. Pretty, ain't it?

Monday Afternoon Craving

I have been craving marrow bones for DAAAAAYYYYYYYYS. I just gotta get off my lazy ass and haul off to Bob the Butcher to pick up a bag. Maybe this coming weekend.

Man's fake girlfriend thrown out with trash

According to investigators, the man had lived with the sophisticated doll for several years after his wife passed away, but decided to part with her after making plans to move in with one of his children. “It seems he grew attached to the doll over the years,” said the chief investigator. “He was confused about how to get rid of her. He thought it would be cruel to cut her up into pieces and throw her out with the trash, so he proceeded to dump her illegally.”

I th ink I myself would have a hard time parting with the sex doll not because I'd grown attached to her, but because those things cost over 5 grand apiece.

True Blood follow up

For real, I think I just give up by this point.

See, I believe that if you're going to tell a story that already exists and that with which people are already familiar, you stick with it. If you want to change around characters and their associations with one another, make up a new story. 'Cause, dude, what they're broadcasting, it's just pissing me off.
And I know I can't be the only one.
